Summer time at the South Milwaukee Library

By Bob Pfeiffer, Library Director

Yes, summer time is here.  Road construction is taking place in front of the library.  We are open for business.  There is ample parking in the lot or the side streets.

Summer is a time for grilling outdoors.  Check out our display on barbecuing.  Some of the titles you will find include The Great BBQ Sauce Book, The Barbecue Bible with over 500 Recipes, The Tailgater’s Cookbook, and The New Grilling Book.

Hey Kids!  Have you signed up for the summer reading program?  There is still time to “Catch the Reading Bug”.  Lots of good prizes and programs.

With the cost of magazine subscriptions going up, why not check out the library’s collection of magazines.  They circulate for one week.  We have over 200 magazines to choose from.

Have a hobby that you might want to share with others?  We are working on programs for the fall/winter.  If you would like to do a program call the Library Director.  We will do all of the publicity.

With the high cost of gas, you may want to stay close to home. Check out the library’s collection on summer recreation ideas.

My how time flies.  Summer is almost here.  Time to start getting the yard in shape and planning those family picnics.  Check out the library’s collection of gardening and cook books.

“Catch the Reading Bug” is the theme for the 2008 reading program.  Be sure to pick up a brochure at the library that lists all of the fun things kids can do this summer.  The program begins on Monday June 16 and runs through Saturday, July 26th.  There is also a listing of the programs on the library’s calendar of events on the website, www.southmilwaukee.org/library.

The summer hours of the library begin on Monday, June 16.  The hours will remain the same as in  the winter except that the Youth Room will close at noon on Saturdays. The Library will be closed on Friday, July 4th and will reopen on Saturday, July 5.

The Youth Room is looking for volunteers to help with the reading program.  If you are interested in volunteering you should call Miss Denise at 768-8195 ext 3.

Reading a good book and would like to share a review.  E-mail your review to bob.pfeiffer@mcfls.org and we will post it on the blog.

Interested in joining a book discussion group?  Stop in the second Thursday of each month at 1 pm for a stimulating book discussion.  Check with the adult reference desk to see what book they are reading that month.
